very cool links: how lace is made.

{photo credits: Cluny Lace Company}

check out this slideshow from the Cluny Lace Company, a since-1845 British company that makes cotton laces from traditional and new patterns. I had never spent time thinking about how lace fabric and trims were made, and I really love how the process merges intricate machinery with human attention and handwork.

I found the company as part of my sister's wedding dress adventure and I think they are going to have something that will work for her--hooray! My understanding is that they only sell wholesale/to the industry, but they will probably be able to direct her to a retailer that will ship yardage.
